What Makes a Great Dentist?

19th March 2021

"Are you a great dentist?"

Now isn't that a question you wish you could ask your dentist?! Often when we get a phone call at Absolutely Dental, we can sense this is what the person on the other end really wants to know! After all, why should you trust us in taking care of your teeth and those of your family? You don't know anything about the dentist. But of course, if you ask the receptionist if the dentist is great, of course, they are going to answer yes.

Like everybody else, my teeth still need regular care to keep them healthy and make them as attractive as possible. So like everybody else, I go to the dentist to receive many of the procedures that I deliver to my patients.
When I was envisioning what kind of practice I would have, it occurred to me that the kind of dentistry I wanted to give to my patients was the same as the kind of dentistry I would like to receive. And being a dentist I have some pretty high standards when it comes to my teeth.

I would want my dentist to see me as an individual, to get to know me personally and not just treat me as a number or the "next patient." I would want my dentist to foster this relationship and respect me as a person and the decisions I make for myself.

Although I am as brave as the next person, I'd prefer to experience as little discomfort as possible during my visit. I want my dentist to be empathetic and show genuine concern for my comfort before, during and after my treatment. I would also want my dentist to have mastered pain-free dental techniques.

Maybe I'm a bit spoiled, but I get a bit irritated if I have to do a lot of waiting. I'd much prefer it if my dentist and staff were ready for me when I arrived.

I value quality before price. I am even willing to pay a little more if I am receiving top of the line treatment. These are the only teeth I'll ever have, so I wouldn't choose my dentist just because his fees were the lowest. I would choose a dentist who could provide me with the highest level of care, which is what I feel I deserve. I would appreciate someone who is painstakingly accurate in all the details of my treatment.

So what I want as a dental patient is what I hope you want, because the result of this kind of treatment is my true goal - optimal dental health and appearance.

If this is the kind of care you are looking for, I'd be happy to be your dentist. These are the standards we hold ourselves to. But even if you are not quite ready for optimal treatment, for any number of reasons, I am still happy to see you, fix any urgent concerns you have (like a painful tooth) and try to maintain your dental health until such time you are ready. I want to be the right kind of dentist for you!

I look forward to meeting you soon.

Also, we are always looking to help new patients. If you feel we have treated you well, please recommend your family and friends to come and see us. This is the greatest compliment we can receive!

Dr. Dinesh Singham (Principal Dentist)
