Dr. Dinesh Singham

BDS (Hons) Syd

I grew up in the suburbs of Sydney where I underwent all of my schooling and professional training. In 2001, after graduating from Sydney University with honours, I made the move to Townsville where I worked as a family dentist for ten years. Like most North Queenslanders, I took an instant liking to Townsville and made the permanent decision to call Townsville home. After meeting my lovely wife, Dr Lindsay Smith, and marrying in 2007 – I couldn’t think of a better place to live and raise a family. In 2009, we celebrated the birth of our son Ruben, with another expected later this year. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, indulging in some fine food and wine and flexing my competitive spirit with a spot of tenpin bowling (I represented Queensland in my earlier years).

My commitment at Absolutely Dental is to complete dental excellence. I frequently attend Continuing Education Conferences throughout Australia to stay as up-to date as possible with the changing techniques and technologies associated with dentistry. Most of the time, I work through a Dental Operating Microscope to increase the precision of my work.

In 2010, I travelled to the USA to further my education in Cosmetic and Comprehensive Dentistry. I further attended the Scotsdale Centre for Dentistry and a conference in Florida to learn from some of the world leaders in Cosmetic and Comprehensive Dentistry.

What I want patients to know is when they come into Absolutely Dental, they will be looked after. I like to make patients feel comfortable, relaxed and maybe even enjoy their dental visit!

Dr Lindsay Smith

BSc (Hons), BDS (2001, Liverpool UK)

Dentistry changed my life.

As a child I sucked my finger and had goofy teeth. I had brown marks where my enamel hadn’t formed properly from being sick as a young child. I went to the dentist and over time I got braces, had crowns and white fillings in the brown marks and my confidence soared.

My face and smile looked so much better.

At school I loved science, anatomy, art and had always loved beauty and aesthetics. I also loved meeting people and helping them with their problems. I love solving problems!

Dentistry was the perfect way to do all these things in one profession. I am so privileged to be able to use the subjects

I love and my skills to effect people and improve their lives as dentistry had mine.

I decided to become a dentist because I love engaging with other people and being able to help improve their smile, health and quality of life.

I love watching people transform through their treatment and seeing people become more self-confident, happier and healthier.

I love being able to see people regularly, because I know it is helping them maintain their teeth, but also because I love to see them grow in life and hearing about their experiences.

People often tell me they are nervous about dental work, but I always try my best to make the experience as comfortable as possible as I want others to also love coming to see me too.

As a naturally artistic person I wanted a career in which I could be an artist, show off my creative nature and undertake detailed and precise work. For me dentistry was the obvious choice. I found I could carve, sculpt and create every day allowing me to work with my hands and get great satisfaction not only from fixing something that’s broken but also by creating beautiful smiles. The first time I helped change someones life by helping them achieve a confident and healthy smile I knew I would always be happy in my chosen career.  I am a social person, love meeting new people and being part of a fun team. Since graduating in the late 1990’s I have also gained pleasure in developing life long relationships with my patients. I am a good listener, will answer all your questions and enjoy giving confidence back to any anxious patients I meet. I pride myself on being as gentle as possible with my hands and with my manner. I understand that sometimes life gets in the way but I’m here to help you get back on track.  I enjoy preventative, restorative and general dentistry and making people smile again.

Dr Bethan John

BDS (Hons) (Wales UK 2008)

I always knew I wanted a career doing something practical and working with people, I could never imagine sitting at desk all day with no one to talk too!

After completing a range of work experience placements I had set my sights on doing something medical, yet couldn’t quite decide which profession to go for. One weekend I was babysitting for a lovely couple who both happened to be dentists. I had a good chat with them about dentistry and by the time I got home my mind was made up. It was the best decision I could have made so I have a lot to thank that couple for!

I really enjoy being a dentist, not only because there is always something new to learn and I can constantly challenge myself, but because I get to work with a great team of people and meet lots of nice patients to have a chat with.

My first serious interaction with dentistry came about when I was in grade 6. I had a very small lower jaw, a trait from my father, and it was the right age to the orthodontist and have it fixed. We didn’t get off to a good start…The orthodontist sent me to get my first filling before my treatment could begin. I remember I didn’t make the dentist’s life easy. Then, when my actual braces treatment started, I had to wear headgear which I found it so painful I wanted to quit. With some support from my parents I persisted through my three years of treatment and had the 13mm discrepancy between my jaws corrected. Looking at my dad, that never had his jaw corrected, serves a regular reminder of what I’ve gained and looking back at it now I consider it one of the most worthwhile things I’ve ever done for myself.

So who wouldn’t want to have a job that makes such a big difference in people’s lives? I started to study dentistry with the with the intention of specialising in orthodontics. But dentistry is a long degree and in my five years of study I’ve discovered that there are many other areas of dentistry that make just as much of a difference to peoples’ lives that I ever known about.

I now enjoy general dentistry so much I don’t even plan to specialise anymore.

I grew up in South-East Victoria along the coast. I made the big move to Townsville in November 2015, to be with my partner who is in the Army.

I have always had an interest in health care. I became a dental assistant because I love assisting the dentist and feeling that my contribution will make a big difference, not only to oral health, but to overall well-being.

In Victoria, I began training as a full-time dental assistant from October 2014, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I gained a year of experience before moving to Townsville and joining the Absolutely Dental team. I was amazed by the advancement in the dentistry compared to my previous job, near my country home town.

I am currently studying my Certificate III in Dental Assisting. My favourite part about my work is helping patients to achieve their oral health goals. It is also rewarding making children feel comfortable, so they don’t grow up being afraid of the dentist.

In my spare time, I enjoy keeping fit and healthy, taking care of my two large-breed puppies and going on adventures.

I have been a dental assistant since 2015 and absolutely love it. I’ve been in customer service industry for many years, ranging from being a flight steward with Emirates, to a beauty consultant at Myer Townsville. However I have always been interested in dentistry and in 2015 I finally decided to do my Certificate III in Dental Assisting. I was so eager and excited, that I finished my certificate within 3 months, whilst working part time.

Since becoming a qualified dental assistant, I have enjoyed every minute of it as every day is so different and I see so many interesting things, and meet new people. I would really love to do my Certificate IIII in the near future.

I have a Belgian Malinois dog named Nixie. In my spare time I love to spend time with Nixie, go to the gym and catch up with friends.

Stacey Draper

Dental Assistant

After finishing high school I went straight on to studying to obtain my diploma in Beauty Therapy where I then went on to work in the cosmetics field for 5 years. Although I loved this career, I knew I wasn’t in-love with it & began looking towards career paths. I knew quite a few people who were dental assistants & I grew a keen interest just from hearing how passionate they were. I have now been in the dental industry since August 2016 as a receptionist & am studying to obtain my certificate 3 in dental assisting.

The dental world is truly fascinating & I love the fact that there is always something new to learn & ways to grow. I am Beyond grateful to become a part of such an amazing team who are so passionate about their patients. You will be so looked after here at Absolutely Dental. I look forward to meeting you!
