Dr. Dinesh Singham

BDS (Hons) Syd

I grew up in the suburbs of Sydney where I underwent all of my schooling and professional training. In 2001, after graduating from Sydney University with honours, I made the move to Townsville where I worked as a family dentist for ten years. Like most North Queenslanders, I took an instant liking to Townsville and made the permanent decision to call Townsville home. After meeting my lovely wife, Dr Lindsay Smith, and marrying in 2007 – I couldn’t think of a better place to live and raise a family. In 2009, we celebrated the birth of our son Ruben, with another expected later this year. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, indulging in some fine food and wine and flexing my competitive spirit with a spot of tenpin bowling (I represented Queensland in my earlier years).

My commitment at Absolutely Dental is to complete dental excellence. I frequently attend Continuing Education Conferences throughout Australia to stay as up-to date as possible with the changing techniques and technologies associated with dentistry. Most of the time, I work through a Dental Operating Microscope to increase the precision of my work.

In 2010, I travelled to the USA to further my education in Cosmetic and Comprehensive Dentistry. I further attended the Scotsdale Centre for Dentistry and a conference in Florida to learn from some of the world leaders in Cosmetic and Comprehensive Dentistry.

What I want patients to know is when they come into Absolutely Dental, they will be looked after. I like to make patients feel comfortable, relaxed and maybe even enjoy their dental visit!

Dr Lindsay Smith

BSc (Hons), BDS (2001, Liverpool UK)

Dentistry changed my life.

As a child I sucked my finger and had goofy teeth. I had brown marks where my enamel hadn’t formed properly from being sick as a young child. I went to the dentist and over time I got braces, had crowns and white fillings in the brown marks and my confidence soared.

My face and smile looked so much better.

At school I loved science, anatomy, art and had always loved beauty and aesthetics. I also loved meeting people and helping them with their problems. I love solving problems!

Dentistry was the perfect way to do all these things in one profession. I am so privileged to be able to use the subjects

I love and my skills to effect people and improve their lives as dentistry had mine.

Dr. Joyce Hsu

I decided to become a dentist because I love engaging with other people and being able to help improve their smile, health and quality of life.

I love watching people transform through their treatment and seeing people become more self-confident, happier and healthier.

I love being able to see people regularly, because I know it is helping them maintain their teeth, but also because I love to see them grow in life and hearing about their experiences.

People often tell me they are nervous about dental work, but I always try my best to make the experience as comfortable as possible as I want others to also love coming to see me too.

Dr Ruth Smith

BDS (Birmingham UK 1999)

As a naturally artistic person I wanted a career in which I could be an artist, show off my creative nature and undertake detailed and precise work. For me dentistry was the obvious choice. I found I could carve, sculpt and create every day allowing me to work with my hands and get great satisfaction not only from fixing something that’s broken but also by creating beautiful smiles. The first time I helped change someones life by helping them achieve a confident and healthy smile I knew I would always be happy in my chosen career.  I am a social person, love meeting new people and being part of a fun team. Since graduating in the late 1990’s I have also gained pleasure in developing life long relationships with my patients. I am a good listener, will answer all your questions and enjoy giving confidence back to any anxious patients I meet. I pride myself on being as gentle as possible with my hands and with my manner. I understand that sometimes life gets in the way but I’m here to help you get back on track.  I enjoy preventative, restorative and general dentistry and making people smile again.

Dr Nicole Mickan

BDS (JCU 2014)

I moved to north Queensland in 2001 and could never imagine living anywhere else; A Queenslander by choice through and through! My family and I thoroughly enjoy the relaxed lifestyle of north Queensland, and being able to entertain outdoors all year round!

I became a dentist because I love working with people and I had a strong desire to make a positive difference in people’s lives.  Being a dentist is such a rewarding profession, with each and every day I have the ability to improve someone’s quality of life. It is such a rewarding experience when someone walks in with a tooth ache and walks out pain-free. It is such an amazing feeling to create a smile that someone so deserves; a smile that rebuilds their confidence to go for that job, or a smile they are proud to show their kids or grandkids. I cherish my ability to create a smile that gives patients that confidence in their job interview, a smile that they feel so proud to show off on their wedding day, at the birth of their children or at that re-union. One of the best parts is, we can usually have this positive impact on people within hours of meeting them.

I also pride myself on making children’s dental experiences one they can look forward to. I enjoy educating children as to the value of their teeth and how they can care for them. Being a mother myself, I relate well to children, keeping up to date with current trends and interests they have. I understand the challenges of parenting, and I believe parents relate well with me and feel comfortable discussing their child’s dental health. Going to the dentist can be fun and exciting…. and when we get our jobs done the kids can pick a reward from the prize box (No candy allowed though!)

I enjoy a broad range of dental treatments; including paediatric dentistry, special needs, root canal therapy, restorative and cosmetic dentistry. I especially enjoy creating a new healthy and more youthful smile for my patients.  I am known for my ability to calm those who suffer dental anxiety as my gentle nature, friendly spirit and high tolerance helps calm even the most nervous patients. For those who simply cannot be treated in the dental chair, whether for anxiety reason, or physical or intellectual reasons, I also conduct dental treatment under general anaesthetic.

Dr Geoffrey Compton

I grew up on the Atherton Tablelands, in the tight-knit community of Malanda, surrounded by friends and family. I was privileged enough to carry out high school work experience with our local dentist, and after observing him interact with his patients and community in both a professional and personal capacity, I found that creating long-lasting professional relationships with patients could be incredibly rewarding – not only for the patient but for the dentist as well. After seeing the impact he made on his patient’s lives, I knew dentistry was the right career choice for me!

I have always loved North Queensland, and after completing my Bachelor of Dental Surgery I made the move to Townsville with my partner Ingrid and pet dog Chief. Outside of work I enjoy camping, cooking, and playing in my local touch football competition.

Whether it is helping you achieve the perfect smile, relieving you from pain, or simply keeping your oral hygiene on track, I enjoy all aspects of general dentistry and creating positive dental experiences.

Erin Page

Oral Health Therapist (CQU 2015)

Originating from a long line of Townsville locals, It must be in my blood to enjoy the beautiful tropics and the heat because I couldn’t live anywhere else! After starting my career in the dental industry when I was 17 as a trainee Dental Assistant, I always enjoyed the thrill of transforming peoples smiles. After a few years working alongside a plethora of differing dental practitioners gaining experience, I went on to further my knowledge studying a Bachelor of Oral Health through Central Queensland University.

As an Oral Health Therapist, I’m the starting point for a lot of patients, especially children’s, dental experiences within our practice. I enjoy introducing patients to the dental world and building (or in some cases, rebuilding) positive dental relationships, educating them on their oral health or just having a chat and making them feel relaxed in our environment. I love working with our patients to transform their smiles and making their teeth shine!

Marjorie Beard

Dental Assistant

I grew up in South-East Victoria along the coast. I made the big move to Townsville in November 2015, to be with my partner who is in the Army.

I have always had an interest in health care. I became a dental assistant because I love assisting the dentist and feeling that my contribution will make a big difference, not only to oral health, but to overall well-being.

In Victoria, I began training as a full-time dental assistant from October 2014, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I gained a year of experience before moving to Townsville and joining the Absolutely Dental team. I was amazed by the advancement in the dentistry compared to my previous job, near my country home town.

I am currently studying my Certificate III in Dental Assisting. My favourite part about my work is helping patients to achieve their oral health goals. It is also rewarding making children feel comfortable, so they don’t grow up being afraid of the dentist.

In my spare time, I enjoy keeping fit and healthy, taking care of my two large-breed puppies and going on adventures.

I was so eager and excited, that I finished my certificate within 3 months, whilst working part time.

Since becoming a qualified dental assistant, I have enjoyed every minute of it as every day is so different and I see so many interesting things, and meet new people. I would really love to do my Certificate IIII in the near future.

Stacey Draper

Dental Assistant

After finishing high school I went straight on to studying to obtain my diploma in Beauty Therapy where I then went on to work in the cosmetics field for 5 years. Although I loved this career, I knew I wasn’t in-love with it & began looking towards career paths. I knew quite a few people who were dental assistants & I grew a keen interest just from hearing how passionate they were. I have now been in the dental industry since August 2016 as a receptionist & am studying to obtain my certificate 3 in dental assisting.

The dental world is truly fascinating & I love the fact that there is always something new to learn & ways to grow. I am Beyond grateful to become a part of such an amazing team who are so passionate about their patients. You will be so looked after here at Absolutely Dental. I look forward to meeting you!

In December 2017 , I was again fortunate, to gain employment with Absolutely Dental. I am now settling into my new hometown and great job , where I am learning and improving my skills.

Currently I am completing certificate 4 in Dental Assisting. This and other studies  will give me a great opportunity to be the very best I can  in my chosen career path .

I describe myself as bright, always smiling and full of energy.

Helping patients feel better about themselves and achieve beautiful smiles is what I enjoy most about being a dental assistant. When a patient smiles confidently and is proud to show off their teeth, it makes my day knowing that we helped to get them there.

Prior to becoming a Dental Assistant I worked in the beauty industry for 10+ years. I am passionate about delivering admirable treatments to clients and helping them to reach their goals. I have a strong passion & dedication to the beauty industry and look forward to sharing these skills with our patients at the new practice.

Keira Riley

Born and raised in Townsville, I graduated from Saint Margaret Mary’s College in 2013. I then got into the real estate field and gained a lot of self-confidence and knowledge from my time in the industry.

Deciding to change career path into the dental industry in 2017 was one of the best  decisions I have made. I am enjoying my role in administration and  one day hope to study my certificate in Dental Assisting to further my knowledge of the clinical end of the practice. I love meeting all the new/current patients that come into the practice and will always greet you with a big smile.

Absolutely Dental is the best team I am lucky enough to be a part of.
