Wisdom Teeth - by Dr Miles Devlin
14th October 2022
Wisdom teeth are the final teeth to develop, being the last in the arch. Though not everybody develops a full set of wisdom teeth, they usually start coming into the mouth between the ages of 17 – 25. However, they don’t usually have enough space to fully erupt. Because of this lack of space, it is often best to consider removing them, where appropriate, during this age bracket as they have the potential to cause gum infections, tooth decay, and develop cysts
Wisdom teeth surgery can usually be done in the dental surgery with appropriate sedation (oral medications taken before the appointment, or intravenous sedation from an anaesthetist who operates out the practice semi-regularly) and is normally well received, carrying a recovery time between three days to one week.
As every patient’s case is unique, we recommend booking in a consultation to thoroughly assess and discuss your options and to provide you with the best care possible.
