How to Keep your Smile in Check

14th June 2023

There is no better feeling than being confident in yourself, better yet being confident in your smile! A study conducted by the Australian Orthodontic Society shows 55% of people are self-conscious about their teeth and 46% of people said their teeth would be the first thing they would change about themselves – even before weight loss!

Having a smile, you feel confident! It starts with a good oral health routine and making sure you are keeping up your regular trips to the dentist. That means ensuring you go at least twice a year. Every smile is unique and your dentist will be able to help you determine what you need to do to keep it sparkling and healthy!

If you are looking to boost your confidence even more, have you considered cosmetic dental procedures? These can be anything from teeth whitening, crowns, veneers, braces/clear aligners, or tooth replacement options such as implants.

In the meantime, here are 4 simple tips to ensure your smile sparkles in between your dentist visits!

  1. Brush regularly

As you know, it is extremely important to make sure that you are brushing your teeth twice a day. This helps remove dental plaque and keep both your teeth and gums clean. However, it is also important to remember the dangers of brushing incorrectly; this means brushing too hard. When you brush aggressively with a hard bristled toothbrush, it can damage the enamel on your teeth.

  1. Limit sugary drinks

Water is the best drink you can have when it comes to keeping a good oral hygiene routine. Drinking sugary drinks can increase your risk of tooth decay while drinks that are acidic, such as soda water, have potential to cause damage to the tooth structure.

  1. Be cautious around staining drinks

Drinks that can stain your teeth are things such as coffee and wine. If you are going to drink these it is important to consume water afterwards. This will reduce the risk of staining on your teeth.

  1. Floss!

Flossing after a meal not only prevents decay but it ensures that no food is left stuck between your teeth. Not only that, if you don’t floss you miss cleaning 35% of each tooth!
