Getting ready for the Festive Season!
As we edge closer and closer to both summer and the holidays, it is important to remember to look after our teeth throughout that period! We’ve put together a little list on how you can enjoy all your favourite food and drinks this Summer, while also looking after your smile!
If you want to maintain a sparkling smile throughout the holidays, it is important not to forget about your teeth!
Follow a good oral hygiene routine.
Oral hygiene isn’t just about appearance, but by making sure your teeth and gums look their best with regular flossing and brushing. You also reduce the risk of developing dental health problems.
When you switch over to holiday mode, it can be easy for both your diet and your oral routine to slip -- you can avoid this by:
- Brushing your teeth twice a day
- Flossing your teeth once a day
- Using a fluoride mouthwash
- Following a healthy and balanced diet
- Replacing your toothbrush every three to four months
- Seeing your dentist for a regular check-up (every 6 months)
Avoid staining your teeth
If you are set on maintaining a brilliant, white smile these holidays, then you should think about moderating or restricting your intake on food/drink that causes stains (this includes but is not limited too):
- Red wine
- Coffee and tea
- Dark berries
- Beetroot
Avoiding stains doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your food and drink! Instead of opting for a staining food, why not substitute for these teeth friendly options instead?
- Try herbal infusions in place of tea and coffee
- Switch out the red wine for white wine, pink moscato, or sparkling rose
If you do want to opt for red wine, you can try cleaning your teeth an hour before you drink! This will remove plaque, meaning there is less for the wine to stick too. Another handy tip is to rinse your mouth with sparkling water between sips which can also help prevent red wine stains.
